I was excited when Ash Bowen asked if I would read a poem for Linebreak to which I eagerly said yes! I was even more excited when I opened my inbox and found Ryan Courtwright’s poem “Elegy of a Young Motorcyclist” there as an option for me to read.

After many practice rounds and me turning down the microphone on Garageband so my bellowing voice didn’t blow out some innocent listener’s eardrums, the poem and my recording of it are now up at Linebreak for all to read and/or hear.

Enjoy and yes, I always sound that nasally.

Reminder To Self:

Do not, under any circumstances, mow the lawn in flip-flops.

I’ve injured my foot. But my fantastic doctor gave me Vicodin for the pain. Thirty of them!

Also, I have to keep my foot elevated and wrapped, which means I can sit around and be on the lap-top all day without feeling guilty about it.

Stupid Me

Don’t you hate it when you repeat the same mistake over and over?

I think I continue to return to a place over and over because that place served me well in the beginning of my poetic journey, but over the past two years I have distanced myself from that place for many reasons. (I’m not talking about my own workshop).

Anyway, I went back again after leaving several times before. I left before for the same exact reasons I still see today, so I’m here kicking myself.

And really, it has nothing to do with any sort of negative commentary. Instead, more of a herd mentality. I go there and see poetic carbon copies, pats on the back and “you’re so great” to poet’s whose poetry, well, sucks. But hey, that’s just my not so humble opinion.

There’s many who think my poetry sucks. Hell, I think my poetry sucks most of the time.
