I have three new bruises on the inside of my right leg near my knee. I haven’t taken the Lamictal in three days and have been taking benadryl as instructed.
I’m
Freaking
Out.
My pdoc said he doesn’t know what it is and to see my my pcp.
really, doc?
So now, not only do I think I’m dying, I’m totally fucking enraged because I’ve stopped taking one of my meds abruptly. I’ve taken some benzos so i can rest and not cause anyone bodily harm.

Dear Rachel,
Don’t be alarmed, but do go see your doctor. I have a bleeding disorder, so for me, those bruises are fairly common if I take anything – and I mean anything – that things the blood, like an infant dose of Advil or too much green tea or vitamin E.
What you’ve been taking probably has done something to make you a little more bleeding prone, but your doctor will probably have some suggestions to help.
Avoid: NSAIDS, aspirin, vitamin E supplements, bromelain supplements, and any kind of blood thinner while you are bruising.
Thanks, Jeannine – I’m still freaking out, of course and really just plain angry with my doctor – he did not tell me what to “expect” since I had to stop taking the Lamictal abruptly and now I’m experiencing withdrawal symptoms. He also responded with “I don’t know” when confronted with “WHY” the lamictal is causing the bruising and my expectation of any doctor who is prescribing me a medication is to know EVERYTHING possible about that medication.
I’m going to see my PCP tomorrow. I’m just down and frustrated because the withdrawals are making me extremely irritable, rage-like, and anxiety ridden so I’ve been sedated for the last three days and feel like a useless POS because of it.
Thank you so much for listing some things that I should avoid – that means a lot – I wish my doctor would have done the same.
Best,
Rachel
